I’m proud to be one of 17 Artists who’ve been invited to make work for the opening ceremony of this years Coastal Currents Arts Festival here in St Leonard’s & Hastings. I can’t reveal what it’s going to entail but POINT OF DECAY will transform one of my favourite structures in town – Sidney Little’s 1/2 mile long 1930′s underground promenade, Bottle Alley. More info will be revealed through ZEROH. Opening Night Friday 28 August 7 – 9pm.
More collages behind the film Bettine Le Beau – A Lucky Girl. After the war Bettine moved to London and as a young woman developed a career as an actress & model in the 60′s & 70′s. When Griff and I spent the day with Bettine she talked us through her scrapbooks & photo albums from this part of her life. In a surreal contrast to her early life she worked extensively across TV, Radio, Film & Advertising for many years. She appeared in The Prisoner, Morcambe & Wise, she was a Benny Hill’s Angel & appeared in James Bond – Dr No. These collages weren’t used in the film which concentrated on ‘Bettine’s war as it were, but they did form part of the 35 prints given to her as a ‘part one’ of the ‘Memory Makers’ project highlighting her amazing strength and resilience in overcoming the adversity & hardship of 5 years a hidden child in World War II. You can read more about this latter part of Bettine’s life here & here.
